HOW TO SUBMIT:

To submit your work to RECESSES, please send an email to recesses.zine@outlook.com with the subject line "RECESSES Submission".

In the body of the email, please include:

- your full name and/or pen name

- your category of work (i.e. poetry, photography, short film, etc.)

- if applicable, please provide warnings/disclaimers on your work if there is any triggering or potentially offensive material/language.

- email address, if not the email address you have used to submit your work

- a brief third person bio

SUBMISSIONS ARE FREE!

All work must follow the guidelines detailed below.

GUIDELINES

Any submission that does not adhere to our guidelines will not be considered for publication.

 

RECESSES accept written submissions in the forms of poetry, flash fiction, short fiction, non-fiction essays/opinion pieces. 

- Poetry: 1-3 poems per author

- Flash fiction: 1-3 pieces with a max. word count of 600 words per piece

- Short story: 1-2 pieces of short fiction with a max. word count of 2000 words per piece.

- Non-fiction essay/opinion pieces: 1-2 pieces with a max. word count of 1500 words per piece.

Works exceeding the max. word count will not be accepted but exceptions can be made ;D

We accept written submissions in the form of .docx and .pdf. You may include your name as a header. Please include page numbers, if applicable. Any font that suits your style is permitted, ensuring it is readable.

For photography, we accept up to 10 of your own photographs.

For artwork, we accept up to 10 pieces of your original artwork.

We accept photography/art submissions in the form of .pdf, .png and .jpeg. We also accept links to portfolios or WeTransfer links, if needed.

For audio, we accept a maximum of 10 minutes of audio. This can be one piece or a combination of pieces that total this amount.

For moving image, we accept a maximum of 10 minutes of video. This can be one piece or a combination of pieces that total this amount.

We accept audio submissions as .mp3 or as links to your work/portfolio (i.e. Soundcloud), and video submissions as .mp4, .avi or links to your work/portfolio (i.e. Vimeo, YouTube). We also accept WeTransfer links, if needed.

RECESSES accepts work from everyone. Please provide warnings/disclaimers on your work if there is any triggering or potentially offensive material/language.

RECESSES accepts simultaneous submissions, however you must let us know if your piece has been accepted elsewhere and if you would like it to be published in our 'zine, also. If yes, see line below regarding previously published work.

RECESSES accepts previously published work, but please provide the details (where it was published, dates of publication, links where applicable) so we can provide this information if work gets accepted.

​

BE AWARE: racism, sexism, homophobia, transphobia, graphic, abusive, and overly lewd content is NOT welcome at RECESSES.

FURTHER INFORMATION

Unfortunately we are not able to provide payment to our contributors at this time, but we hope to be able to in the future.

Any work submitted after the deadline will not be accepted, but please re-submit once submissions re-open!

Please allow us up to a month to respond after the submission deadline before giving us a nudge.

Upon being accepted, you will be asked for an Artist image and your social media links - these will be purely for the 'ABOUT - ARTISTS' page.

RIGHTS

By submitting to us, if accepted, you grant us first electronic rights (if previously unpublished) and non-exclusive archival rights. All submissions remain the intellectual property of the artist. Rights revert back to the creator upon publication.

​

To protect all artists confidentiality, all personal information is deleted from our server after the publication of their featured issue. This includes all e-mails, images and work that has been saved on our laptop. Only permitted pieces and artist images will be used and featured on RECESSES zines, unless we are asked for them to be removed by the artist.
